Paperback. Imagine your weekly game night. The snacks are ready, the dice are hot, and your Dungeon Master is spinning an epic tale. But what if one fateful roll plunged you and your friends into a world that was terrifyingly real? For Leo, Marcus, Chloe, Maya, and Nate, that nightmare becomes reality when their enigmatic DM's Emerald Key transports them into Aethel, the very fantasy realm they thought was just make-believe. Suddenly, they aren't just players; they are Harold the Ranger, Fred the Archer, Sarah the Cleric, Summerwind the Mage, and Slim the Thief. Their character sheets are their lives, their skills are instinctual, and every wound bleeds. Harold, plagued by self-doubt, discovers a unique, unsettling ability: the Glimmer, allowing him to see the world's underlying code. Aethel isn't just a game; it's a meticulously crafted sentient simulation, its inhabitants living, breathing beings longing for freedom from their programmed destinies. Praetor Valerius, the simulation's ruthless overseer, sees their free will as a dangerous 'bug' to be patched out. His Dominion forces hunt them relentlessly, believing the legendary Amethyst Key-their only hope for escape-is a tool for ultimate control. With a cynical local rogue as their reluctant guide, this band of accidental heroes must navigate shifting realities, uncover the true nature of their prison, and make a choice: fight their way home, or risk everything to liberate a world that believes they are its gods?
