Item description from seller

Engraving with hand coloring. Page measures 8 1/8" x 5 1/8". Image measures 6 7/8" x 4 1/4". This rare historical map covers the Atlantic coast of North America and the Caribbean. It includes roughly where the sailing routes of various early explorers landed, labeled by name and date. Some light toning. This map appears in the second edition of "Willard's History of the United States", an Atlas designed for use in schools and libraries. Emma Hart Willard (1787-1870) was an American teacher and geographer. She was the Principal and founder of Troy Female Seminary, the first school in the United States to offer higher education to women. She issued many books on ancient geography, histories and astrography. Scarce.
