Excerpts from the introduction, "Walter Jacob's long and distinguished career as rabbi, teacher, pastor, and communal and international Jewish leader has had a single constant: a deep devotion to scholarship. The breadth of his interests, the power of his intellect, and the vastness of his knowledge are astounding . . . The goal of this festschrift is to reflect on areas of knowledge where Walter Jacob has already made important contributions. Each of the participants . . . eagerly agreed to . . . have their work included in this volume as a way of showing appreciation for what they personally gained from their association with Walter and to further the scholarly projects that are a part of Walter's continuing work.".
