AMERICAN PRACTICAL NAVIGATOR NATHANIEL BOWDITCH U.S. NAVY HYDROGRAPHIC OFFICE 1943. I am pleased to be able to offer for your consideration this classic work of high importance to our Navy and sailors around the World. Please find a vintage copy, still in very good condition, of: American Practical Navigator An Epitome of Navigation and Nautical Astronomy, originally by Nathaniel Bowditch. This large hard cover book (7 ¼ x 10 ¼ inches, 307 pages plus 43 appendices) was published by the Hydrographic Office of the United States Navy Department, as publication No. 9, this edition, dated 1943. It is bound in tan buckram with black titles on cover and spine. This book opens with a brief one-page biography of Dr. Bowditch. The text of this iconic work on navigation runs to 307 pages followed by another 300 plus pages of Appendices with reference tables essential to navigational calculations. This vintage guide to navigation should be on the bookshelf of any enthusiastic sailor. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There is some rubbing and wear to the finish of the hard covers particularly at the top and bottom of the spine. Otherwise, the hard covers are clean and the titles still fully legible and even attractive. Inside, a former owner has left his inked name on the front endpaper and an erasure mark but those are the only marks I found in the book. The pages are clean, perhaps a bit toned but still very presentable and attractive. Both hinges are intact and the binding, it seems a reinforced binding, is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. …
