The American Party System And The American People is a book written by Fred Irwin Greenstein that provides an in-depth analysis of the American political party system and its relationship with the American people. The book is divided into three parts, each of which delves into a different aspect of the American political landscape. The first part of the book provides an overview of the American party system, tracing its origins and evolution from the early days of the Republic to the present day. Greenstein examines the role of political parties in shaping American democracy, and explores the ways in which parties have adapted to changing social and political conditions over time. The second part of the book focuses on the contemporary American party system, examining the strengths and weaknesses of the two major parties, the Democrats and the Republicans. Greenstein analyzes the ideological and policy differences between the two parties, and explores how these differences have shaped American political discourse and policymaking in recent years. The final part of the book looks at the relationship between the American people and the party system. Greenstein explores the ways in which citizens engage with political parties, and the impact that party affiliation has on political attitudes and behavior. He also examines the role of interest groups, the media, and other factors in shaping public opinion and political outcomes. Seller Inventory # 059208

XX [From the dust jacket] PEOPLE AND POLITICS is a pictorial history of the party system in America since the founding of the nation. In text and pictures, it tells how political destiny has been shaped by insistence on equal freedom of expression by the most extreme minority groups as well as the powerful two major parties. The pictures have been selected from contemporary views of the American scene; party tracts, handbills, posters, newspapers, magazines - the endless realm of paper-geography where American thinking has found expression. No mere Presidential portrait gallery, this, but an authentic picture of the men of political history as they were seen at the time of their prominence. An anti-Madison protest, cartoons ridiculing Webster, maligning Grant and eulogizing Cleveland, Civil War posters, a caricature of Wilson, thoughts on the two Roosevelts; these and many more capture history in a series of candid pictorial views from Washington through Truman's election. The author, Lamont Buchanan, one of the earliest contributors to the big pictorial magazines, is a pioneer in the text and picture method of telling a story. Educated at Columbia University, where he majored in several years of ghost writing campaign speeches and literature for political candidates. Seller Inventory # 002271
