Students can learn more about their government if they are given a chance to investigate empirical and tangible evidence about the subject matter…
American Government: Assessing Behavior & Ideas piques students’ intellectual curiosity by placing them in the role of an investigator or social scientist to leverage curiosity in the learning process. The text promotes the exploration of American Government in an applied manner. Each chapter opens with a critical essay that offers students an opportunity to examine a critical thesis about a topic in American Government. Upon reading the essay, students are invited to critically reflect on the argument, evaluate it, and examine the topic of the chapter in greater depth via several exercises via a variety of social scientific tools.
American Government: Assessing Behavior & Ideas:
- Contains seven chapters that focus on the core topics found in traditional American Government textbooks.
- Pushes students beyond simple recitation of facts and into the realm of collecting, organizing, and synthesizing information.
- Promotes in-depth study of public records such as the Constitution, written opinions of the Supreme Court, archives of American national institutions, Election data, and more.
- Is written in a flexible format – chapters can be re-ordered to follow an existing syllabus; can be used as a primary or supplementary resource.
