First published in 1962, Frederick Rudolph's study, ""The American College and University"", has been described as one of the most significant works on the history of higher education in America. About the Author: Frederick Rudolph is Mark Hopkins Professor of History Emeritus at Williams College, where he was chair of the American Studies Program from 1971 to 1980. John R. Thelin is University Research Professor of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Kentucky."
