âThe America Cup: A Nautical Poemâ vividly recounts the five international races between the yacht Livonia and the yachts Columbia and Sappho. Penned by Hamilton Morton in 1874, this descriptive poem captures the excitement and drama of the contests held to determine the possession of the Challenge Cup, famously won by the yacht America in 1851.
Mortonâs work offers a rare glimpse into the world of 19th-century yacht racing, celebrating the skill, strategy, and spirit of these historic sporting events. This poem is an enduring tribute to the legacy of the America's Cup and the yachts that competed for glory on the open sea.
