Title: Alpine Botanical Lithograph Pair of Anomatheca and Saxifrage, 1874 Description: This charming pair of botanical lithographs, published in 1874 by George Bell and Sons in London as part of the second series of Alpine Plants, beautifully captures two captivating alpine species: Anomatheca cruenta (also known as Scarlet Anomatheca) and Saxifraga mutata (Mutating Saxifrage). These vibrant prints are wonderful examples of the exceptional precision and artistic grace typical of Victorian botanical illustration. On the left, the lithograph showcases the slender green leaves and striking red, star-shaped flowers of the Scarlet Anomatheca, a plant known for its elegance and brilliant coloring. Each petal is rendered with delicate shading, capturing the bold yet refined nature of this alpine gem. On the right, the lithograph features the Mutating Saxifrage with its bright yellow flowers, each bloom detailed with careful attention to the fine veining of the petals and the lush green leaves below. The Alpine Plants series, produced by George Bell and Sons, brought the fascinating alpine flora of Europe's mountain regions to collectors and naturalists of the 19th century. These lithographs are not only beautiful works of art but also scientific records, documenting the incredible diversity and adaptability of alpine plants in rugged mountain habitats. Condition summary: These 1874 lithographs are in excellent antique condition, with only minor edge wear that adds a touch of authentic vintage charm. Framing tips: Use classic wooden frames with a soft cream or muted green mat to complement the vibrant reds and yellows of the flowers. This will enhance the botanical detail and create a refined and sophisticated display that brings the spirit of alpine meadows into your space.…
