The present volume is numbered fifteen, part two, of the Alphabetical Index of the Births, Marriages and Deaths recorded in the City of Providence, and is the second of a set of three volumes to contain an index of the births, marriages and deaths recorded in Providence for the years 1901 to 1910. Inclusive.
It is an index of the deaths recorded for the above named years, and is printed from a card index made as the deaths are recorded. The' deaths referred to in this volume are recorded in the bound volumes of the Records of Deaths beginning on page ninety-nine of volume twenty-one and ending with page three hundred forty-four of volume twenty-three. Chapter 616 of the Public Laws passed the Second of March, 1899, provides for adding to the records any names Which were for any reason omitted when the record was made. Such additions are contained in volume A3. Sixty~five deaths recorded in volume A3 are ih dexed in this volume. Of these all but two occurred out of the city, and the record was made later, when it was found to be necessary for legal purposes. The two exceptions were persons dying at the Rhode Island Hospital whose bodies were removed by out-of-town undertakers at a time When there was no state law requiring permits for burial or removal from the city. The following table shows the number of decedents, including stillborn and 11011-1'esidents, whose names are recorded in Providence for each of the ten years from 1901 to 1910.
