Item description from seller

In this delightful alphabet book, author Nancy Raines Day introduces children to the lively world of alphabeasts--an orchestra of fantastical musical creatures created by wacky combinations of animals and instruments. The safari begins with A is for alliguitar, who has his own picks and continues to Z is for zebrass, getting their kicks. Award-winning artist Herb Leonhard adds his zany illustrations featuring the alphabeasts romping and riffing through a swamp, a luau, a circus, a church, and other fanciful scenarios as they make their way to the concert stage. Creative musical adventures abound in these colorful pages! Nancy Raines Day writes for educational publishers and mentors young writers through the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Her first children's book, The Lion's Whiskers: An Ethiopian Folktale, was hailed by the New York Times as one of five notable picture books of the year. She earned a BA in journalism from the University of Michigan and an MA in literacy journalism from Syracuse University. A member of the Authors Guild, Day lives with her husband and three cats on St. Simons Island, Georgia. Her second book with Pelican, Way Down Below Deep, reflects her love of the ocean. Herb Leonhard received a BFA in illustration from the Pacific Northwest College of Art. His award-winning work has appeared in D Magazine, among other publications. He is also the illustrator of Pelican's Way Out West on My Little Pony, St. Patrick and the Three Brave Mice, A Southern Child's Garden of Verses, Leonardo's Monster, I Know a Librarian Who Chewed on a Word, Runaway Beignet, and Hercules on the Bayou. Leonhard lives in Prosser, Washington.
