About this Item
In French. 'Les Grands Livres Merveilleux.' I'm not clear on whether this is a First of the Fabbri edition. At the bottom of the copyright page is printed 'Copyright 1960-1961.' There is no data on the title page. There was a 1966 second edition. Regardless, my book is, as far as I can tell, singularly unique by virtue of its having the original dust jacket. I found no other book for sale anywhere on the Internet with its dust jacket. The jacket is plastic. However it is quite unique in having at the top of the front in gold lettering the title of the book, and on the rear cover the gold design that you can see the photo. To be clear, all of this gold lettering and design is on the plastic jacket, not on the covers of the book. I've provided photos of the front cover with and without the dust jacket. You may be able to see that the dust jacket has a very thin tear going across from the top edge where it meets the spine all the way to above Alice's left eye, where it turns upward for about an inch before stopping. One needs to be careful in handling the dust jacket because this tear in the plastic will easily extend further. You can probably also see that there is a small loss on the jacket's front cover near the bottom right-hand corner. There are also smaller losses off the top and bottom edges of the spine and off the bottom edge of the rear cover just adjacent to the spine. There are also three small jacket tears, one off the bottom edge of the front cover adjacent to the spine, one off the top edge of the rear cover just adjacent to the middle edge and one off the bottom edge of the rear cover also just adjacent to the middle edge. The jacket is clean and the gold lettering and design is unworn. Turning to the book, the covers are in very nice condition. There is a light stain off the bottom edge of the front adjacent to the middle edge. There's also a little tanning at the spine ends. The edges and corners of the covers are in very good condition. The lettering on the front and spine is very bright. So is the illustration. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover. No cracks or spaces, no binding issues. The white inside covers and end papers have no soiling at all. Nor do any of the pages in the book. They are exceptionally clean. There is tanning/toning at the margins of the pages. There's also a very light crease, more of a slight indent, at the bottom corner of the last 10 or so pages. Looks like a little bump might have caused that, fairly minor. The pages are in generally very good condition but there are a few other imperfections. There is a thin fissure-like crease off the top edge of 4 or 5 pages. About 2 inches long. Doesn't reach the print or illustrations. There's also a thin tear off the bottom edge of page 53-54. About a half an inch, not reaching the print or illustrations. And there is a crease/fissure off the outer edge of page 45-46, also not reaching the print or illustrations. And that's it for page imperfections. There are no markings in this book. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. There is one little attachment off the top edge of the first front end paper. It looks like a slightly large stamp. It may be a bookseller label. It has the date '009/12/61' on it. Also the printed words 'Filial: Av Marginal T. 080713 Cascals Tabacaria Do Parque Arcados Do Parque Estoril Tel. 080281.' Google Translate detected Portuguese and spit out the following semi-translation: 'Subsidiary: Av Marginal T. 080713 Cascals Tabacaria Of the Arched Park Of Estoril Park Tel. 080281.' I'll leave it to better minds than mine to make sense of that. There are no other attachments. The book is NOT ex-library. Also, the plastic jacket is not clipped. I should note that the color illustrations (on every page) by Maraja (Libico Maraja, one of Italy?s top post-War illustrators) are wonderful! Two are full-page. Write me if you want to see other photos. Seller Inventory # 002260
