The authors' aim is to enable all students using REDUCE for the first time to gain a familiarity with the full range of REDUCE commands whilst at the same time learning something of the internal workings of REDUCE. Throughout, numerous exercises are provided to illustrate themes covered in the text as well as to encourage `hands on' working with REDUCE.
Both authors are expert users of REDUCE and the text is based on their many years of teaching the system to undergraduate and graduate students. As a result, all those coming to use REDUCE for the first time will find this an invaluable tutor and guide. For more advanced users, it covers a number of aspects not included in the REDUCE manual.

Review
This is a well-constructed complement to the REDUCE user's manual, with a lot of background material as well as advanced examples ... it will prove useful to all serious users of the REDUCE system. (Dr A.H. Harker, AEA, Harwell, Contemporary Physics, Volume 33, Number 2, March/April 1992)
If REDUCE is the system that you're using, then this is an excellent complement both to the system manual and to Gerald Rayna's REDUCE: software for algebraic computation. (Times Higher Educational Supplement)
...one of the best introductions to REDUCE available....the exercises included at the end of each chapter deserve special mention and have to be considered as one of the most original contributions of the book. They illustrate interesting applications of computer algebra in mathematical physics ranging from standard exercises oriented to develop skills using the package, to non-trivial problems intended to stimulate reflection on the particular point involved. (General Relativity and Gravitation, Vol. 27, No. 4, 1995)
