Step into the world of The Alchemist’s Tango: Inspired by a true story lost to time.
In the smoky dance halls of 19th-century Montevideo, one dance can change everything.
When Carmen Ruiz, a young seamstress with fierce intelligence and an unyielding spirit, crosses paths with the enigmatic Francisco Piria, visionary magnate, writer, inventor, and rumored alchemist, her life takes a dramatic turn.
Based on the true story of Argentinean-born author Carmen Piria (née Ruiz), whose voice, like those of so many women in history, was silenced over time, The Alchemist’s Tango reimagines her world, giving her words and legacy new life.
As Montevideo stands on the brink of modernity, Carmen and Francisco are swept into a whirlwind of love, ambition, and rebellion, set against the birth of tango and the secrets of alchemy. This is a tale of transformation, passion, and courage that lingers long after the final page.
“The Alchemist’s Tango is about far more than romance,” says Mandarin. “It’s a story of transformation—the alchemy of self-discovery and resilience, of turning pain into power and daring to rise beyond the limits society tries to place on you. At its heart, it’s about the courage to rewrite your own destiny.”
