Paperback. Ice, a rare albino deer, is the unofficial leader of a community of woodland creatures. Rabbits, possums, squirrels, mice, foxes, and other animals turn to Ice to help with all manners of practical and moral conundrums. In Annie Laughter's debut picture book, The Albino Deer Series, Volume 1, children will see the natural world through the eyes of Ice and his friends, and learn some valuable lessons along the way. When we first meet Ice, he earns his name by rescuing a drowning baby fox. Ice's bravery and intelligence lead the other animals to seek out his advice. From chapter to chapter, Ice and his friends learn lessons about morality, discrimination, safety, ecology, and natural disasters. The Albino Deer Series, Volume 1, with its combination of poetic prose, engaging illustrations, and life lessons, is the perfect bedtime or read-aloud story. Teachers and parents alike will appreciate the advanced vocabulary words sprinkled throughout the book, and kids will love the imaginative world of talking animals. Like A. A. About the Author
Annie Laughter is a graduate of Peabody College of Education and Human Development at Vanderbilt University. She majored in both elementary and special education and taught in Nashville-area public and private schools for more than twenty-five years. In 2010, Laughter was one of three finalists for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year.
Now retired, she has a tremendous appreciation for the wildlife of Tennessee, particularly the rare albino deer that inhabit the woods surrounding her rural community. In The Albino Deer Series, Volume 1, the first in a planned succession of children’s picture books, she combines her teaching experience with her love of the natural world, resulting in stories that are full of unique life lessons.
