The Bündner Kunstmuseum dedicates an exhibition to Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) in autumn 2023, which focuses entirely on his early creative phase and artistic development until his first years in Paris. Like the exhibition, this book also shows what the young Giacometti was guided by in his development, how closely he worked together with the father Giovanni and how he gradually broke away from him. But you can also see how the later world-famous artist drew and painted his personal environment and created the first plastics.

Last but not least, an intensive examination of works by previous masters and with art history begins during this period, and Giacometti becomes aware of his role as an artist. This sets in with works of the 12-year-old and extends to the rich creative phase of his first Parisian years, when he dealt with cubist pictorial worlds and realized a first exhibition in 1925. Thus, this volume allows new perspectives and exciting insights into the formative early development of this artistic exceptional personality.
