Blue cloth boards. DJ in protective wrap taped to boards. Ex-library with usual stamps. Text is clean and bright. "It had started out to be a miserable summer for Jerry Nelson - with his father in the hospital recovering from an automobile accident and his mother so worried about him - and about finances, too. And Jerry only adding to her worries! At least, that was the way it looked the night he was picked up in a car driven by a hot-rodding friend and escorted home by the police. And then the embarrassment of finding his Uncle Ed there in the living room with his mother - well, that was the end! Humiliated and resentful, Jerry doesn't even realize that his luck has turned. And when his uncle offers to take him along to Alaska with the promise of a job for the summer working his gold claim, he accepts reluctantly, as though he is the one doing the favor. Here is a novel with robust characters, action, adventure - and with timely, fascinating information, too. The exceptional beauty of the new state, the invigorating climate, and the accurate, detailed account of gold-mining are described with the first-hand knowledge that makes them as absorbing as the story itself." Age Level: Grades 4-8; Ex-Library; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.…
