This publication is the product of the chief of the air staff's Air Power Workshop which consists of an ad-hoc collection of academics and senior military officers. The chapters in the book represent examples of air power thinking in the United Kingdom, which are based on research and enhanced by operational experience. The scope of the book ranges from issues of political limitations on military intervention to a re-evaluation of air power in the so-called "revolution on military affairs." Key issues taken into account include: the significant changes brought about by the collapse of communism and the concomitant demise of the Warsaw Pact; the constant operation use of air power based on the Gulf War and the subsequent operations over northern and southern Iraq; the pressures presented by the rate of change in technology since 1990; and the role of the media.
