About the Author: Svein Olav Daatland is a senior researcher at Norwegian Social Research (NOVA), and a former Director of the Norwegian Institute of Gerontology. He has been active in European studies on ageing and the welfare state, and has published extensively on ageing, intergenerational relationships, and welfare policy both in the Nordic countries and internationally. Simon Biggs is currently Professor of Social Gerontology at Keele University, UK. He has published work on social gerontology, social work, applied psychology and social policy both in the UK and the US. He is currently an executive member of the European Masters Programme in Gerontology, sponsored by the European Commission.
