African Landshells Atlas 3350 Colour Plates by Tiziano Cossignani ISBN 978-88-86070-31-7, publishes 2014 by L'Informatore Piceno, Ancona, Italy. Hardcover in laminated boards stitched binding, A4 Size, about 21 by 30 cm. (about 8 by 11¾ inches) 208 pages, minimal text is bilingual, Italian and English and about 190 pages of color photographs of varying sizes and views of the shells as well as many variations within a species. This is the first volume of a proposed 3 volume set which will eventually cover the land shells from other parts of the world. The series is off to a great start with this publication which is very well done. The shells are treated geographically and arranged by family within their geographic zones. There is minimal information about the shells apart form their scientific name, the area of the country in which they are found, the shell size and the source of the photo when appropriate. The book is well indexed and the photographs of even some of the smallest of these shells are sharp and can easily used for identification. No attempt has been made to classify these shells and that is disappointing, but that is not the purpose of this book and as a photographic atlas of these snails it is extremely well done. It fills a huge gap in our knowledge of these African shells many of which I have not found photographed elsewhere.
