This illustrated work suggests solutions for management problems by means of storytelling, in the tradition of the Greek slave Aesop who lived and told his animal fables around 600BC. 17 animals have been chosen for this set of cautionary tales which includes the Wombat from Australia, the Chameleon from Africa, the hedgehog from the UK, and the Beaver from North America. It is aimed to help managers understand the people they work with and for management trainers who want their message to stick. The first section of each chapter introduces a management problem using a fictional animal fable, the second section follows up with corresponding real life management case studies whilst the third section gives advice and tips for managers who recognize themselves or their teams in the stories.
Review:
'The book is extremely well researched and interesting to read. It sets out to make several key points and these are reinforced at the end of each chapter in a considered, didactic way. The points in the animal examples are well made and easy to understand from the viewpoint of the reinforcement material and the cleverly structured mini-case studies....The book is clever, thoughtfully written, and easy to understand.'
