A very scarce copy of this charming children's story from English-born Canadian writer Susanna Strickland. Very scarce work. Illustrated with a frontispiece and title vignette. A charming story for children following the adventures of a little field mouse from the field to a house where he tastes his first plum-cake. Written by Susanna Moodie (nee Strickland), an English-born Canadian author who published children's stories in London before settling in Canada and writing about her experiences there. She was also involved in the abolitionist organization Anti-Slavery Society, transcribing the narrative of the former Caribbean slave Mary Prince, the first black woman to publish an autobiography.Dated from the University of Oxford Libraries. In the original quarter cloth binding with pictorial paper covered boards. Externally, sound with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Good.
