From the dust wrapper: "Here is a man who, at sixty, is able to say honestly, 'Life has alwa ys been to me a glorious adventure'. He proves it by telling a straightforward and richly absorbing story of his adventures as a high-spirited schoolboy, a keen young sportsman, an explorer in New Zealand, a solder all through the Boer War and World War and a hard-working and hard-fighting member of the British House of Commons and Secretary of State for War". "Because of his survival, not once but many times, from almost certain death in accidents of sea, land, and air, he has become a legend , in his own lifetime, to the men who have known and loved him as a comrade". Contents include: First Military Training; Across New Zealand on Horseback; Return to England; Marriage and Call to the Bar; The Boer War; To South Africa with the Yoemanr y; Winston Churchill; Arrested for Disobeying Orders; Typhoid Epidemic; Army Reform Movement, 1903; England's Preparedness for the Great War; Recalled to the War Office; Battle of the Somme; Wounded; Second Marriage; Gassed and Ordered Home; Tribute s to the Canadians; etc.…
