About the Author
Dr. Vinay Chembolu is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu. He obtained his B.Tech. (Civil) from the University College of Engineering Kakinada―Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (UCEK―JNTU) Kakinada, and M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Water Resources Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. His major research interests include river engineering, river dynamics and experimental and field hydraulics. He has published his research work in various reputed international journals. He has been working with various research and consultancy projects for river training, development of waterways, dam break analysis, flood inundation modeling and environmental flows, all pertaining to the Indian rivers. He has been actively involved in conducting hydrographic surveys in challenging rivers like the Brahmaputra, Kosi, Brahmani and the Himalayan Rivers using advanced river surveying equipments. Dr. Vinay is a founding organizer of the International Conference on River Corridor Research and Management (RCRM) and served as an editor for the Proceedings of RCRM Springer series. His has received grants from prestigious institutions such as the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI), Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS), National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR)/CEFIPRA, and others for organising seminars and training programs. He has received projects sanctioned by Jammu & Kashmir Science, Technology and Innovation Council (JKSTIC), UKRI-Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), and the National Water Mission (NWM), focusing on critical issues such as climate change, flood risk evaluation and state-specific action plans. His research collaborations include SAC Ahmedabad ISRO, Loughborough University, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, IIT Mandi. He is currently a member of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir's Dam Safety Committee. He is a member of the British Society of Geomorphology, International Association of Sedimentologists and Association of Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography.
Prof. Subashisa Dutta is presently working as a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati. He is currently working as a Professor of Civil Engineering and Professor-in-charge of Space Technology Cell at IIT Guwahati. He was a visiting fellow at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, the Kyoto University in Japan and has visited several other countries for research and academic collaborations. His research interests include fluvial hydraulics, hydroinformatics and advanced remote sensing for water resources applications, hill slope hydrology, urban hydrology and climatic change. He has been working for various sponsored and consultancy research projects in distributed hydrological modeling, sediment budgeting, flood inundation modeling, river basin management and bank protection. He is a member of the water resources thematic group in the Ganga River Basin Environment Management Plan, the Brahmaputra Board and several other academic and research organizations. He has published more than 100 research articles in reputed water resources journals and conferences. He has been the associate editor of the Journal of Hydrology and the Hydrological Sciences . He was awarded the prestigious S.N. Gupta memorial award, R. J. Garde research award, the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) fellowship and other awards for his expansive contribution to the field of water resources engineering in India.
