Advanced Textbook of Geriatric Medicine 2027 connects the biology of aging with comprehensive assessment and the practical challenges of care across settings. Written for advanced medical students, residents, and practicing clinicians, it also supports interdisciplinary study among nursing, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and allied health professionals.
Eighteen chapters examine the interaction of physiological reserve, chronic disease, medication burden, cognition, mobility, nutrition, social circumstances, and goals of care. The emphasis is on clinical reasoning: interpreting an older person's presentation, weighing competing priorities, and developing a coordinated approach that reflects function and preferences.
Inside the book:
• Comprehensive geriatric assessment, frailty, sarcopenia, and functional decline.
• Multimorbidity, shared decisions, medication safety, and deprescribing reasoning.
• Cognitive disorders, delirium, mental health, sleep, sensory function, falls, and bone health.
• Cardiovascular, respiratory, kidney, endocrine, nutritional, gastrointestinal, cancer, pain, and skin-related presentations.
• Acute hospital and perioperative care, rehabilitation, community services, long-term care, palliative care, and ethics.
• Fictional case openers and resolutions, measurable learning objectives, and five numbered subchapters in every chapter.
• Ninety teaching images, five appendices, a clinical glossary, references, and an index.
Case discussions connect mechanisms and assessment findings with treatment burden, caregiver partnership, and continuity of care. The reference sections support further study of drug classes, laboratory values, clinical formulation, transitions, and professional guidance.
This is an educational textbook in American English, with a United States clinical context. The 2027 edition label does not imply verification of future guidance. Clinical recommendations require independent checking against current primary sources, local protocols, and patient-specific circumstances before application.
