Snowflake has transformed the way organizations store, process, analyze, and operationalize data in the cloud. But knowing basic SQL is only the beginning. To build reliable and scalable solutions in Snowflake, you need to understand advanced querying, data transformation, procedural programming, automation, and performance optimization.
Advanced Snowflake SQL & Scripting is a practical, hands-on guide for developers, data engineers, data analysts, database administrators, and architects who want to move beyond basic queries and build sophisticated data solutions in the Snowflake Data Cloud.
Whether you are developing new Snowflake workloads or transitioning from traditional platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other cloud data warehouses, this book provides a structured path toward mastering the SQL and scripting capabilities you need for real-world data engineering.
Through practical explanations and realistic examples, you will learn how to design powerful queries, transform complex datasets, create reusable database logic, automate recurring workflows, and build scalable data pipelines.
Inside This Book, You’ll Learn How To:- Write advanced Snowflake SQL using joins, subqueries, CTEs, set operations, and complex expressions
- Master analytical and window functions for ranking, aggregation, trends, comparisons, and time-series analysis
- Generate, load, clean, and transform data efficiently within Snowflake
- Work with semi-structured data such as JSON and build queries around complex data structures
- Create reusable SQL functions and user-defined functions (UDFs)
- Build stored procedures with Snowflake Scripting
- Use variables, conditional logic, loops, cursors, and exception handling in procedural workflows
- Design automated data workflows using Snowflake Tasks
- Use Streams to identify and process changes in data
- Combine SQL, Scripting, Streams, and Tasks to create automated pipelines
- Develop maintainable and reusable data-processing logic
- Diagnose inefficient queries and apply practical performance optimization techniques
- Understand strategies for controlling compute usage and managing Snowflake costs
- Design production-ready workflows that are reliable, maintainable, and scalable
The book takes a practical progression from sophisticated SQL techniques to procedural programming and automation. Instead of treating these capabilities as isolated features, you will learn how they work together to solve real data engineering problems.
You’ll explore how analytical queries can feed transformations, how procedural logic can control complex operations, and how Streams and Tasks can turn individual operations into automated, repeatable workflows.
The result is a complete understanding of how to use Snowflake SQL and Scripting as building blocks for modern data platforms.
Designed for Real-World Snowflake DevelopmentAdvanced Snowflake SQL & Scripting is written for professionals who want more than a collection of syntax references. Each concept is presented with practical context and examples that help you understand not only how a feature works, but when and why to use it.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
