This Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) study guide by Medical Creations, Second Edition is a comprehensive, practice-oriented reference and study guide for advanced cardiac life support, fully revised to reflect the 2025 American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. It sets out the algorithms, rhythms, medications, and decision points of modern ACLS in a clear, teaching-focused format built for recall under pressure.
Its coverage runs the full continuum of resuscitation care, from prevention and early recognition through post-cardiac arrest management and recovery. It is written for the clinicians who respond to cardiac emergencies, including nurses, physicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and advanced practice providers, as well as students preparing for ACLS certification or recertification.
Each unit builds on the last, so readers finish with a connected understanding of why each step happens and when, not just a list of actions to memorize.
Inside, you will find:
- The 2025 unified Chain of Survival: prevention and early recognition, high-quality CPR, defibrillation, advanced resuscitation, post-cardiac arrest care, and recovery and survivorship
- A clear breakdown of the adult ACLS Survey, covering circulation, airway, breathing and ventilation, and defibrillation
- How to recognize and manage cardiac arrest rhythms, plus the non-arrest rhythms you have to act on fast
- Post-cardiac arrest care, including current targeted temperature management (a goal of 32 to 37.5°C maintained for at least 36 hours in comatose patients after ROSC)
- The scenarios you actually face: opioid and toxicology emergencies, acute coronary syndrome, and stroke
- ACLS in special populations, including pediatric and neonatal patients, pregnancy, and patients with known or suspected high-consequence respiratory pathogens
- Anatomy and physiology of the heart and the normal ECG, so the protocols make sense instead of being memorized blind
- End-of-section exercises with a full answer key, so you can test your recall before exam day or your next shift
Whether used to prepare for a first ACLS course, to renew a certification, or as a trusted reference kept close on the unit, this is a comprehensive yet practical and readable guide to advanced cardiac life support.
This book is an independently published study and reference guide from Medical Creations. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the American Heart Association.
