This historical address, "Address Of The Hon. C. G. Memminger, Special Commissioner From The State Of South Carolina, Before The Assembled Authorities Of The State Of Virginia, January 19, 1860," offers invaluable insight into the political climate leading up to the American Civil War. Delivered by Christopher Gustavus Memminger, a prominent figure in the Confederacy, the speech articulates the grievances and justifications for South Carolina's secession from the Union. As Special Commissioner, Memminger sought to persuade Virginia to join the cause, outlining the principles of states' rights and the perceived threats to the Southern way of life.

This volume provides a primary source perspective on the complex issues that divided the nation, making it essential reading for historians and anyone interested in understanding the origins of the Civil War. Memminger's address serves as a critical document for grasping the ideological underpinnings of the Confederacy and the motivations behind its formation.
