This comprehensive book examines the manufacturing of thin-walled structures using diverse Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes. It emphasizes fundamental principles alongside cutting-edge developments in AM, covering materials ranging from non-metallic to metallic thin-wall applications. This book provides complete coverage from pre-processing through post-processing stages, explores both traditional and machine learning-based characterization techniques for thin-walled structures, and presents real-world case studies demonstrating various engineering applications of thin-walled designs.
Key features
This book is aimed at graduate students and researchers in manufacturing engineering, AM, and modeling and simulation.
Sagar Nikam is working as a lecturer at Ulster University (Derry~Londonderry Campus). He completed PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Indore. Thereafter, he joined Birla Institute of Technology Mesra as an Assistant Professor. Before joining as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering in the School of Computing, Engineering, and Intelligent Systems at Ulster University, Magee Campus, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in developing the simulation for the selective laser melting process. His research interest is in Additive manufacturing with a particular interest in developing process simulation models for metal additive manufacturing processes. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with IMechE: Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He has experience in publishing quality research articles in Journals, Conferences, and Book Chapters. All of these can be accessed through this (https://scholar.google.co.in/citations?user=MitnY6EAAAAJ&hl=en) link.
Mayur Sawant completed PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Indore. Thereafter, he joined Indian Institute of Technology Indore as a post-doctoral fellow. He has been awarded by MHRD sponsored Shastri Indo-Canadian Post-doctoral Fellowship to pursue research at University of Alberta, Canada. Further, he joined as assistant professor in the department of manufacturing engineering and industrial management COEP Technological University Pune. He is currently working as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering School of Engineering and Science, MIT Art, Design and Technology University. He has been working in various research fields such as additive manufacturing, hybrid additive manufacturing, biomaterials, lattice structure, knee implant etc. He has experience in publishing quality research articles in Journals, Conferences, and Book Chapters. Shaun McFadden completed his PhD from University College Dublin (2007) in the area of computational microstructure prediction during solidification of alloys with a particular focus on macrostructure development under microgravity conditions. He held academic positions in the Technological University of Dublin and in Trinity College Dublin (University of Dublin) before joining Ulster University in 2015, where he is a lecturer in the School of Computing, Engineering, and Intelligent Systems. He has published widely in areas related to materials science, both fundamental and practical, and has experience of researching and supervising research in the areas of metal additive manufacturing, microstructure modelling, crystal growth experimentation, and joining technology for thin-walled structures. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with Engineers Ireland.
