Review
'Motivating intermediate learners and helping them feel a real sense of progress is notoriously difficult. This course would certainly seem to go some way towards achieving these aims.' The Journal, 1997
'This offers the broadest and most comprehensive learner training of the coursebooks analysed ... learner training is maintained consistently throughout.' ELT Journal, 1997
'Activate Your English deserves success. It makes a definitive attempt to promote learner independence; it is certainly at the correct level for false beginners; and it adopts an adult approach. As a book for adults and about adults, it is likely to catch your student's attention.' ELT News
'The book is very strong on learner training: it treats the "students" as intelligent learners who have every right to know the aims of the activites they are asked to do ... The main strength of this book is the abundance of speaking activites based around the topics of the units. They provide the opportunity for a range of pair and group interactions that should do a lot to help improve the communicative abilities of most learners ... It certainly makes a real effort to address the needs of adults, particularly in the way it encourages the learners to play a proactive and self-aware role in the learning process.' IATEFL Newsletter, 1996
