Hardcover. Military airfields in Kent, through Sussex, Hampshire up to Swindon in Wiltshire are all in the third volume of the new "Action Stations Revisited" series. Airfields from which flimsy biplanes and blimps of World War One rose to defend Britain, from which Hurricanes and Spitfires took on the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain and later took the fight to the Nazis. Airfields from which the RAF fought the long Cold War and more recent conflicts. Instantly recognised names like Manston, Hawkinge, Odiham, Tangmere, Lee-on-Solent, Greenham Common, Thorney Island, Farnborough and Wroughton mingle with less well known places such as Bekesbourne, Welford, Grain, Hartford Bridge, Throwley, Ramsbury and Woodchurch. The relics of the little known story of the "Sound Mirrors", Britain's early warning system before radar, are amongst the many previously unpublished photographs which illustrate this comprehensive coverage of Britain's front line airfields. Part of the "Action Stations Revisited" series, this third volume talks about the military airfields in Kent, through Sussex, Hampshire up to Swindon in Wiltshire. It also contains the details about the airfields from which biplanes and blimps of World War One rose to defend Britain, from which Hurricanes and Spitfires took on the Luftwaffe.
