About this title

Synopsis:

Military airfields in Kent, through Sussex, Hampshire up to Swindon in Wiltshire are all in this new third volume of the Action Stations Revisited series. Instantly recognized names like Manston, Hawkinge, Odiham, Tangmere, Lee-on-Solent, Greenham Common, Thorney Island, Farnborough, and Wroughton mingle with less well known places such as Bekesbourne, Welford, Grain, Hartford Bridge, Throwley, Ramsbury, and Woodchurch. The relics of the little known story of the Sound Mirrors, Britain s early warning system before radar, are among the many previously unpublished accounts and photographs which illustrate this comprehensive coverage of Britain s front line airfields.
The original Action Stations series was a major contribution to aviation literature; Actions Stations Revisited will prove an equally indispensable companion for any aviation historian.

About the Author:

David Lee has had a lifetime interest in aviation. After an engineering career that included a time with Rolls Royce, he spent 16 years at Duxford, retiring as deputy director and curator of aircraft. His writing includes aviation books, technical reports, and airshow souvenir programs. He is the technical editor for a series of airfield histories. A past chairman of the British Aviation Preservation Council and the Transport Trust, David now organizes and conducts tours of Duxford and has commentated and lectured widely in the UK, Europe, and Australasia. He is a widower with four grown-up children.
