Across the Edge: Pushing the Limits across Oceans and Continents journeys into a fascinating and often untouched world, “of unexplored mountain ranges, ice caps, and ocean solitude.”
Engineer, photographer and explorer Peter Clutterbuck has travelled through 105 countries and ventured into some of the most remote and unforgiving places on Earth. He has sailed single-handed across the Pacific, climbed previously unclimbed mountains in the Arctic and Antarctic, crossed Arabia’s Empty Quarter and dived in the pristine waters of the Indian Ocean.
In Across the Edge, Peter recounts the dangers, discoveries and moments of extraordinary beauty that defined these expeditions. He is rolled in a Land Rover in the Arabian desert, is dismasted in the North Atlantic, encounters an earthquake while climbing an erupting volcano at night and battles a ferocious Antarctic blizzard. Throughout, he pushes both technology and human endurance to their limits.
Illustrated with Peter’s striking photography, this is also a celebration of the world’s remaining wildernesses: immense glaciers, limitless seas of sand, deep-blue oceans and crystal-clear, star-filled skies. His experiences reveal both the raw power of the natural world and its increasing fragility―and make a compelling case for protecting it for future generations.
Leave behind traffic, technology and the relentless pressures of modern life, and journey across the edge into places where nature still rules and time seems to stand still.

"A fantastic read, I found this book exciting, interesting and inspiring.
Peter is a man with many more than 9 lives. The sheer variety of Peter's experiences, of locations, and modes of transport mean there's something of interest for everyone in this book, whether they are an adventurer themselves or not - including in the desert, the Arctic and Antarctic, Africa, on mountains and on the oceans, using motorbikes, and sailing boats. Peter recollects his adventures and mishaps with passion and humour and his easy-to-read style made for a compelling read.
I would recommend this book.” Helen Lipscombe
