The 30 poems collected in Waters, muddy and clear, will let the reader penetrate Tempesta's nostalgic Italian heart. His verses, some in rhymes, are about love, desire, passion and compassion, fear and rejection, and the irony of life in all its aspects.
Translating poetry is an arduous task but he succeeded in recreating in English, the emotional impact of his original poems in Italian. At the end, he even invites the readers to give their own interpretation of the final poem, My Lady.
Giovanni is a firm believer that we are all poets in one way or another, and that poetry lives inside of us. Poetry is part of each and every one of us, without exception. It is like a remote and hidden prisoner.
He feels that man, like Michelangelo and his David, must do nothing but give it freedom from its imprisonment.
Once sent forth, however, poetry belongs to us no longer, thus we often do not feel worthy of it. We hold the doubt that it was really our delivery, that it was hidden inside us for so long.

Chapter One
WATERS
Against our bridges so much water has broken both muddy and clear. Our piers have been splintered scarred forever corroded, hollowed out even shifted millimeters heavy as eternity. What stays whole after such erosion? And friendship, that arcane sacred feeling, the great consolation, has it withstood the clash, the impact or is this, even this an illusion?
PERCH MAI? WHY EVER? And why ever finish when I have just begun to live? And why ever disappear when the sea and the sky are not ready to yield their place? Why ever wake from this incandescent dream if the moon and the stars don't want to set upon this scene?
SCHIACCIA QUEL TASTO!
Schiaccia quel tasto!
STRIKE THAT NOTE!
Strike that note! Slice the silence! Hurl a smile, that healing smile from your bitter fretful self! The lofty message you howl to the wind to soothe others' wounds flies forth from your teeth not your heart!
IT RESEMBLES YOU
It resembles you this void hollowed out by remorse and mad love. So well hidden I toiled to find it, assailed as I am by despair and stripped as I am of my will. I miss you still, in spite of all, you and that fleeting burst of azure ephemeral though it was shared with me that day above these rooftops, pulsating, alive and sonorous alive with swallows resonant with antiquity.
SERBALA
SAVE IT
If within the well of your heart so grandiose you should discover a shiver a murmur and of love a lonely crumb, save it for the morrows that you have refused to allow me, that you have chosen to deny me. For a shiver from you is more forceful than Aeolus, one sigh from you resounds like a roaring sea and this mere crumb from you satiates the most ravenous heart.
THE SHADOW OF YOU
Between the raining down of ivy, and the whisper of a breeze soft and sweet among the fronds, your shadow proudly rises, your smile resounds your memories assail me to them I surrender.
TI PENSO
E ti penso.
I THINK OF YOU
From the sonorous silence of the marble leaps toward the sky a prayer of a love that surpasses every sculpted word every dawn, every voice ... And I think of you.
ADDIO
FAREWELL
From the ruthless core You took the last bite. Go ahead, toss it away, Trample on it at will Reduce it to mere mush! And now, as it was decided, you throw away what is left of the delicious fruit of which your ardent mouth made such a great feast. And to say that from the start All this I could foretell. Good bye, my dear Farewell.
DO NOT BREAK THE SPELL
Don't break the spell of this sweet music! Inside of us we carry the banner of the majestic rite of life without fear. Why cast to the wind the fruit and its blossom of a throb nourished in the silence of moons? The love which in your heart you crave will never be inherited by us mere mortals.
STRIDULA GOCCIA
Qual stridula goccia roditrice perpetua stai in me scavando un vuoto abissale, mia devota, vera e sola ragione di vita, mio grande patire quotidiano. Scompaio stilla a stilla si sbiadisce l'ardire, esploro irrevocabili abissi sonni oblii ...
STRIDULANT DROP
Like a stridulant drop perpetually corroding you are within me excavating a void an abyssal void you, my devoted, my true and only purpose for life my great reason for daily suffering. Upon what wrong do you dispense your infantile rage? I, drop by drop, disappear, my ardor fades as I explore irrevocable abysses sleeps oblivions ...
PERUGIA LIKE A DREAM
A green sign trembles in the fog, lost within sparse souls stray phantoms and I find myself alone suddenly between two blood-colored walls and infernal heat. The misted glass takes from me the force of the day by now alive and palpitating. I choke as I struggle to print with my index finger my name that fades into drops of breath and vain words. It then transmutes into skeletons of pear trees and poplars that panting, run the perennial race, at last letting me savor a ray bathed in winter mist. Wakens the torpor of hands outstretched in the darkness the deafening shout of a city that awaits me.
THE DREAM NOW SAILS
In your lucent gaze I witnessed the purity and captured the freshness by now long forgotten. My dream now sails, my heart knows no repose your walls become preeminent, reverberations of light fragments of memories rebound within and pierce my mind as your voice echoes on ...
MON DRAPEAU
andata a morire l'ultima onda l'onda della mia speme sotto i morbidi piedi d'una vergine. Al mattino. Ho scorto saettar gi l'ultima stella incendiarle i riccioli biondi.
MON DRAPEAU
It went to die the last wave, the wave of my hope under the tender feet of a virgin. In the morning. I witnessed the falling of the last star setting her blond curls aflame. I silently cried my solitude on the deserted sea shore. Interlaced putrid algae wrap my body, young and vile in the lone tunic: my only flag.
SVANITA
ABSENT-MINDED
Absent-minded, you laugh as I marvel, as I am stunned that I cannot frown from rage at your oblivion, my grief, of crashes and splashes of the ocean over rocks you and I naked, entwined in a lighthouse do you not remember? And your orgasm swallowed by phantoms of a night that set so silently, so rapidly upon us by surprise, I put in my mouth a cigarette half smoked stolen from a uniform pocket, absorbing the taste of my father's moustache and teeth I struck the last match against a rugged wall whose admonishing voice I, in illusion, sought to silence. If in your heart you can no longer gather the beginnings of all the sweet years, of the escapes and the ecstasies what do you grasp with your claws? You fool! The tenderness of your kiss of your first caress still melts my heart, shatters and grips it and yet the battle will still find it subjugated and conquered.
IT WAS THE LAST
Silently a dazzle of a cloud dissolves within a sky in unison. It was the ultimate the requiem of Aeolus piercing the altar of the cosmos. An accident of squalid muteness. It was the ultimate, a ritual root the breeze of resounding scales from the vibrant memory of restful harps. It was the ultimate. Accident of pallid muteness the altar of the universe. And I ... its ardent victim.
TRISTE PRESAGIO
SAD PRESAGE
Arranging the spoils of years that were I saw myself in a diaphanous amphora. The voice that emerges was the echo of a cry concealed by tears still oppressing a heart. I shake my limbs bestrewn with sounds hearing again the sally of those who made them clash the scorn of souls the irony of the past the irony of the present of centuries and centuries of obsolete forms of skies at sunset of suns by now extinguished of people nourished by eternal wounds of the dead who still live a death which on earth has already darkened them ... A face that is not mine two strangers' eyes and yet I recognize myself.
L'unica soluzione? Che la fiamma tu spenga!
THE IRONY OF LIFE
You are all tense, you seem impaled by my theory on irony the irony of life. It's a challenging arduous chase it's a demonic search for the TRUTH - a trap- and when you have seized it what remains if not the gloomy reality of sinking into a deep abyss from which there is no escape a farewell to our world alas! There is no return! Life ... Are you astounded? Life is but an inferno the more I shake the more I burn it's all a moment, a flash. You are granted the illusion that this all may not transpire. The only solution? Douse the fire!
