"Sales/posting to the USA suspended". Hard cover in clear plastic protected dust wrapper, 308pp, b&w plates. A little wear to edges of dw/boards, page edges slightly browned; ownership details on fly (Savage, 74 Squadron RFC) good copy. Edward 'Mick' Mannock officially shot down 73 aircraft in WWI and, unofficially, nearly a hundred yet he was blind in one eye. A great and inspirational leader of men, a master of air strategy and the innovator of aggressive formation flying. Mannock was also one of the most mystifying enigmas of the RFC. Until the day of his death he never conquered his fear of being burned alive in the cockpit and this recurrent horror coloured his career considerably. This is the full story of his career, set against a period when air power depended not upon remotely-controlled missilves but on men of imagination, daring and outstanding personal courage.
