Book has typical age/use wear including rub marks and edge/corner scuffs, etc. In 1783, the Governor-General of Bengal, Warren Hastings, appointed his cousin Captain Samuel Turner to lead a British diplomatic mission through Bhutan ("Bootan") and into Tibet. The primary goals were to establish trade routes across the Himalayas and to reinforce British ties following the discovery of the newly reincarnated Panchen Lama (referred to as the "Teshoo Lama").
