Academic Writing Course is designed for students embarking on further studies through the medium of English. This successful course is suitable for students at Cambridge First Certificate level and above.
The "Collins Study Skills in English" series has been developed to meet the demand of teachers and students for suitable practice materials in vital study skills through the medium of English. The material can be used with learners of English at Cambridge First Certificate level and is designed primarily for students embarking on tertiary level courses in universities or colleges. The materials have a wide application in academic, technical or business studies and all titles are suitable for class use or self-study. This course is designed both to improve the general fluency of the student's writing and to train the student in the particular skills necessary for preparing a dissertation, report or essay. Part 1 "Fundamentals", this looks at particular difficulties the student may experience in writing English. It analyses common errors and provides practice in their correction. Attention is also paid to organisation and style. Part 2 "Functions" is the core of the book. Ten units of material present and practise the main functions of academic writing. Part 3 "Appendices" acts as a bank of reference material with information and examples of practical use to the student.
The book can be used with a teacher or for self-study. There is a key to the exercises at the back of the book.
