Print on Demand. This book explores the effect of high temperatures and dilution on the absorption spectra of various solutions. The author investigates these effects in both aqueous and nonaqueous solutions, providing a comprehensive analysis of the absorption properties and molecular interactions of substances in different states. The results of this in-depth study challenge traditional views on the nature of absorption and provide valuable insights into the behavior of light and matter. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

Explore how light interacts with solutions across temperature and dilution, explained through detailed experiments and the radiomicrometer.
This study presents measurable evidence on how absorption spectra change when salts dissolve in water, and how water itself behaves differently when part of a solution. It offers a clear look at early 20th‑century methods for probing solution structure and the role of hydration in light absorption.
The book traces the evolution of ideas about what absorbs light in solutions, from molecules to ions, and then to the idea that electrons inside ions act as the actual light absorbers. It explains why concentrated and dilute solutions can look differently colored, and how the presence of water of hydration can alter absorption. The text also discusses experimental techniques to compare solution absorption with that of water, and it presents concrete results for salts of neodymium, praseodymium, and other elements, using the radiomicrometer to quantify changes in intensity and wavelength.- Learn how temperature, dilution, and hydration affect absorption bands and color in salt solutions.
- See how researchers tested theories of light absorption with carefully matched water depths and solution layers.
- Understand the solvate theory of solution and its implications for interpreting spectra.
- Get a sense of early experimental methods, instrumentation, and the reasoning that linked chemical behavior to optical measurements.
