This work attacks Governor Melville for being the root cause of the recent problems which centered on the disputes of French Roman Catholic residents who wanted a voice in the island's government. The British had taken over Grenada from the French in 1761 in the course of the French and Indian War. This is in reply to another anonymous tract, LETTER TO RIGHT HONOURABLE EARL OF [HILLSBOROUGH] ON THE PRESENT SITUATION OF AFFAIRS IN THE ISLAND OF [GRENADA] (London, 1769).
