Capture the wonder of nature’s most awe-inspiring moments—through the lens of your camera.
In The Art, Science, and Craft of Great Landscape Photography, best-selling author and renowned wilderness photographer Glenn Randall teaches you how to transform breathtaking visual experiences into powerful, emotionally resonant photographs. Whether you're venturing deep into the backcountry for that once-in-a-lifetime sunrise or perfecting your technique from your own backyard, this updated third edition is your essential guide to mastering landscape photography.
This newly revised edition features:
- All-new imagery and examples throughout the book
- A brand-new chapter: Refining Your Field Technique—with insights on gear, cold weather, safety, and modern mirrorless cameras
- Updated techniques that reflect Glenn Randall’s evolving workflow, including the use of smartphones and mapping apps for field planning
Randall begins with foundational photographic principles, then takes readers deeper into the art of composition—introducing a flexible, three-step approach that moves beyond rigid rules to intuitive creativity. From there, he explores the science behind compelling images, explaining how knowledge of geography, light, optics, and human vision can dramatically improve your results.
Highlights include:
- Understanding the movement of the sun to plan your sunrise and sunset shots
- Using rear-button focus for sharper, more intentional imagery
- Working confidently in extreme environments and challenging light conditions
Whether you're a weekend hobbyist or an aspiring pro, this comprehensive guide will help you bring your photographic vision to life—one breathtaking landscape at a time.
Perfect for fans of National Geographic’s Guide to Landscape Photography, Light on the Landscape by William Neill, and Photography and the Art of Seeing by Freeman Patterson.
