Add to basket"Think of living on a plateau 1500 to 2000 feet above sea level with the Cascade Mountains sheltering you on the west; with Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams, eternally snow-capped, always in sight, and the mighty Columbia River at your feet, while ever near you the whispering forests of pine and fir scent the air." This elaborate piece of booster literature advertises land in Klickitat County in southwest Washington, a region especially suited to apple raising. The brochure opens to a four-panel map that shows the Great Northern Railway and its connections, with a photographic image in the middle featuring an apple tree that brought its owner $45 in one season. Another map, on the rear panel, focuses on the rail lines between Klickitat County and the major cities in the Pacific Northwest. Also includes "Some Important Facts Concisely Stated" which concludes with "TEN ACRES. Will make you rich." Accompanied by four laid-in pieces: a leaflet that offers undeveloped land for $100 per acre, a detailed map of available land in the southwest section of Klickitat Valley, and two leaflets regarding The Progress Company's exhibit at the Second (1909) and Third (1910) National Apple Show in Spokane, Washington. Pamphlet (4" x 9 ¼"), bound with two staples, with 16 panels featuring 6 photographic illustrations and 2 maps. Light edgewear, with a bit of minor soiling to the rear panel; otherwise very good. No copies in OCLC or in the marketplace.
