FLORUS, Lucius Annaeus, 72-130 AD L. ANNAEI FLORI EPITOME RERUM ROMANARUM EX RECENSIONE JO. GEORGII GRAEVII. Amstelaedami: Apud Georgium Gallet, 1702. This is based on the 1680 Utrecht edition by Graevius. 8vo (20x12cm), [24],533 pp, [1], [2],242,[100],46 pp. Full leather paneled calf binding with tooled floral design. Raised bands on spine. There is cracking to the outer hinge on the front and back but it is still very mobile and solid. The whole binding itself is firm square. There is wear on the leather spine so the gilt tooled decoration does not come through as well, and the title label is missing. There is also bumping and rubbing of the top right corner of the front board. The interior is extremely bright and clean. Very good to near fine. Both volumes have elaborate engraved title page frontispieces dated 1703. This is a handsome printing of the Roman historian Lucius Annaeus Florus's 'Epitome of Roman History' edited by the renowned classical scholar Johann Georg Graevius. There are numerous engravings for coins and some for Roman artifacts too. The book is of numismatics interest, and of ancient monuments too. There is a folding plate with the reconstruction of text on an ancient monument. Volume 1 and 2 are bound as one excellently. There is a wonderful timeline and detailed index too. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.…
