Discover America's greatest stories – The Great Gatsby, Little Women, Moby Dick and more, retold for ages 7–11 with free audiobooks.
From dapper parties with Gatsby in 1920s New York to sailing the ocean in search of the great white whale, this ten-book collection brings American literature's most iconic stories to young readers. Children will grow up alongside the March sisters, raft down the Mississippi with Huck Finn, answer the call of the wild with Buck, and encounter Solomon Northup's remarkable true story in Twelve Years a Slave – each book retold as a complete story in clear, engaging language, with a QR code linking to a free audiobook so children can listen along as they read.
The adaptations are by Gemma Barder and Lynne Wilson-Bailey. Gemma is a Leicestershire-based children's author who began her career in children's magazines and now writes novels, treasuries and storybooks across Sweet Cherry's list; the collection is illustrated throughout by Arianna Bellucci, a Florence-based illustrator whose characterful artwork carries readers from New England whaling ports to the Wild West.
For schools and libraries, the set builds cultural literacy beyond the familiar British canon – with Twelve Years a Slave offering an accessible route into Black history for Key Stage 2 readers. For parents and gift buyers, these are the stories behind the films families already love: a complete American literature library in one slipcase.
Ideal for:
- Ages 7–11 · Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6)
- Black History Month reading and displays
- Fans of the Little Women and Gatsby films
- School and classroom library collections
- Building cultural literacy beyond the British canon
- Birthday and Christmas gifts
