Petit-fils de Catherine la Grande, Alexandre Ier est dès son plus jeune âge un être double, ondoyant, mystérieux, déchiré entre ses illusions lumineuses et les dures réalités de l'heure. Pour monter sur le trône, en 1801, il enjambe le cadavre de son père, l'empereur maniaque Paul assassiné avec son consentement tacite. Rongé de remords, il voudrait se racheter en travaillant au bonheur du peuple. Mais de ses élans libéraux ne naissent que des décisions autoritaires. Le grand événement de sa vie est sa lutte farouche contre Napoléon, en 1805, puis en 1812. Alors, toute la nation russe se réunit autour de lui contre l'envahisseur. Après le désastre de la Grande Armée en Russie, il se croit investi d'une mission providentielle : détruire l'esprit du mal incarné par Napoléon et par les révolutionnaires de tout acabit. Soi-disant éclairé par Dieu, il institue une fraternité internationale contre les fauteurs de troubles en Europe, la Sainte-Alliance, et crée dans son pays une sorte de monarchie théocratique, patriarcale et policière. Tout ce qui en Russie pense, tout ce qui lit devient hostile au pouvoir. Autour de ce monarque oscillant entre mysticisme et frivolité, Troyat évoque magistralement les champs de bataille, les congrès et les salles de bal où se nouent intrigues sentimentales et politiques. Il fait vivre un personnage qui, par ses hésitations mêmes, nous semble peut-être plus proche, plus complexe, plus humain que ses deux illustres prédécesseurs : Pierre le Grand et Catherine la Grande. If you use this option, we will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a cancellation on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.
Effects of cancellation
If you cancel this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to cancel with contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
