Some of the photos have handwritten notations on the versos, and are housed in an envelope for "Anzani, Moteurs d'Aviation." Alessandro Anzani (1877-1956) was born in Italy, where he taught himself how to make engines for motorcycles, cars, boats and eventually airplanes. He moved to Paris around 1900 and was involved with racing motorcycles. He worked for Cornet, a manufacturer of motorcycles, who let him use their workshop to develop an engine. With money he won in motorcycle racing, he set up a workshop near Paris in Courbevoie, where he worked on developing engines. One of those engines was a lightweight three-cylinder engine that Louis Bleriot would use in a plane that crossed the English Channel in 1909. Eventually he would license his engines to be used by different manufacturers. He retired just shy of his 50th birthday in 1927 and retired to Normandy. He never qualified for a pilot's license.
