209pp ISBN 0940670267 These are the memoirs of Nicolas de Basily, a highly placed member of the Russian foreign service in the years before the 1917 Revolution who drafted the abdication statement of Tsar Nicholas II. Basily gives the reader a vivid impression of both domestic and foreign policy developments in Russia between 1900 and the revolution, particularly in the last months of the monarchy. Knowing most of the principals personally, he is able to give personal sketches and character judgments of all the leading politicians of the day, and there are particularly absorbing portrains of Count Witte and A. I. Guchkov. Includes a facsimile of the Tsar's abdication statement. First published in 1973 under the title, "Nicolas de Basily Diplomat of Imperial Russia 1903-1917 Memoirs." fine w/fine dustjacket (hardcover).
