The book that takes you from "I don't really understand this" to "I can hold my own in any conversation about cybersecurity risk."
Cybersecurity risk management has become one of the most important disciplines of our age. Every organisation now depends on digital systems, and every digital system carries risk. The decisions made by risk professionals shape whether businesses survive, whether hospitals can treat patients, whether banks can serve customers, whether governments can deliver on their promises.
Yet the literature on the subject is largely written for people who already know. The newcomer is left out. The curious professional cannot find a way in. The executive who needs to understand what their team is doing is offered books that assume what they do not yet know.
A-Z Cybersecurity Risk Management for Beginners is the book that closes that gap.
Across thirty-five chapters in seven parts, Dr. Shibu Valsalan takes the reader from absolute beginner to confident participant in the discipline. No prior knowledge is assumed. No jargon is left unexplained. Every framework, vocabulary term, and method is introduced from the ground up.
The book is structured around its subtitle. The reader learns to build the function (understanding where risk management sits, the three lines of defence, the frameworks, the risk register, the supporting tools and habits). The reader learns to make the decisions (identifying risks, assessing them, choosing between treatment options, accepting risks consciously rather than by neglect). The reader learns to earn the trust (working with auditors, talking to boards, engaging regulators, building the relationships the work depends on).
A dedicated chapter on Middle East and GCC frameworks gives the regional practitioner what no other introductory book provides: a clear treatment of the cybersecurity frameworks of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait alongside the global standards.
This is Volume One of The Risk Discipline. The companion volume, Cybersecurity Risk Management for Practitioners, takes the working professional from competence to mastery.
