The Ninth Directive (Quiller 2) by Adam Hall is a razor-taut espionage novel that sends the solitary, hyper-disciplined agent Quiller to Bangkok, where he must prevent the assassination of a visiting British dignitary. Operating without weapons, backup, or official cover, Quiller navigates a maze of political tension, surveillance traps, and a ruthless enemy cell known as the Kuo. Hall’s trademark clipped prose, psychological intensity, and procedural precision give the story its distinctive edge, building a thriller that’s both cerebral and breathlessly tense. A prime entry for collectors of Cold War spy fiction, Quiller series devotees, and lean, high-craft intelligence novels.
