Synopsis

Mari the Monarch: Legacy of the Wings is a children’s story that follows a young monarch butterfly as she begins her first great migration from the California coast to the mountain town of Mariposa. Though Mari will never make the full journey herself, she is guided by the inherited wisdom of generations before her—an instinctive legacy carried within her wings.

Through Mari’s journey, young readers learn how monarch migration spans multiple generations and why each butterfly plays a vital role in the continuation of the species. The story gently introduces themes of family, responsibility, and interconnectedness, while helping children understand the natural lifecycle of monarchs and the importance of milkweed to their survival.

Written for children ages 4–10, Mari the Monarch: Legacy of the Wings blends storytelling with real-world nature education, encouraging curiosity, empathy, and awareness of how human actions affect the environment. The book concludes with educational material designed to deepen understanding of monarch butterflies and simple ways families and classrooms can support pollinators.

This heartfelt story celebrates legacy, resilience, and the quiet miracles of nature, reminding young readers that even the smallest wings can carry an extraordinary journey forward.
