Synopsis

Eight-year-old Harry wants spending money like his friends have. His solution: start a business. There's just one problem - he has no money to start one, and his parents can't help.

So Harry looks around his small town and notices something everyone else overlooks: free-range chickens wandering loose down the streets. Could they be the answer?

The Chicken Story is a true story, whimsically illustrated, about resourcefulness and the first business a child builds from nothing. It's told by the real Harry - R. Harry Page - and written by his son, second-generation kidpreneur Jonathan Page.

The book closes with a business plan template that walks young readers through the same steps Harry took, turning the story into a practical tool children can use to plan a venture of their own.

For ages 5-9, The Chicken Story is a natural fit for classroom units on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and goal setting.

About the Authors

Jonathan Page is an attorney in an entrepreneur's body. In 2013 he left a midsized firm to found InPrime Legal, offering proactive, predictable legal services to small and midsized companies, and later co-founded GAGE, an AI-powered platform giving founders access to legal documents and business intelligence. He lives in Marietta, Georgia, with his wife Mariana and their six sons. The Chicken Story is his father's story, and the one that set him on his own entrepreneurial path.

R. Harry Page is the real-life Harry of The Chicken Story. He began his career in HVAC equipment sales and, at 42, pursued his dream of business ownership, going on to build two eight-figure businesses in Cobb County, Georgia on a simple philosophy: help others succeed and success will come to you. He raised four sons on frank talk about his failures and successes. He lives with his wife Susie on Lake Keowee in Seneca, South Carolina.

Erica Ramsey-Bowen grew up in Durham, North Carolina, half an hour from the Pittsboro farmland where The Chicken Story takes place. Most illustrators produce 28 to 35 images for a picture book; this story pulled roughly 100 out of her. She lives in Atlanta with her husband Scott and their Maltese, Boomer, who appears frequently on her Instagram, @Cre8WhatYouWish.
